Find the complete list of travel gears that came in super handy while flying on an international flight with my toddler.
Ok guys, I am back with my last travel blog post for now. I promise 🙂 … at least till the time I am not going on any other crazy long journey with my eighteen-month-old toddler. Previously, I had shared two blog posts from our recent travel to India in May for which we were on a twenty-eight hours long flight journey both ways (‘how I kept my little girl entertained on a long flight a.k.a flight activities/ toys to keep a toddler entertained’ here and ‘how I organized my diaper bag for our long flight journey and diaper essentials’ here). We had a great time experiencing new things while on our travel and on our vacation as well, but there were moments in our flight journey when Mayank and I were both exhausted trying to control our over-active eighteen-month-old toddler Mishika, who did not quite seem to get tired at all…:)!
This is my favorite travel blog post of all where I am sharing some fancy and very useful top-level travel gears that came in super handy while travelling with my eighteen month old toddler.
1. Diaper bag – This is one of the most important travel luggage for any parent travelling with a kid and you cannot miss it! You can find my link here on how I organized my diaper bag for our travel and all the essentials that I had carried in my bag for our trip. Also, the diaper bag that I was carrying for my flight journey was this one.
2. Munchkin backseat organizer – I am so glad that I decided to buy this before our travel. With us being on such a long flight, it was hard to keep track of all the toddler stuff like bottles, spoons, tablet, our phones, earphones etc. which were being used again and again. So, this backseat organizer came in super handy to keep everything organized on our long flight. Although this is designed for car seats, I was able to fix it to the backside of the front seat in front of us or sometimes hung it on the bassinet in front of us (when we were lucky to get the front aisle seats for few our flight in our trip).
3. Baby leash for toddlers – Honestly, I kind of felt like a smart mom with this.. 🙂 It was so easy to keep track of Mishika while we were in transit or changing terminals at the airport. She was super active and running around everywhere, with the baby leash I was care-free and knew that she could but get lost or go too far. Also, I did get a lot of smiles from passengers passing by us while I was trying to control Mishika with this. It was a great life savior for us!
4. Umbrella stroller – I was happy to have picked a lightweight and easy to handle stroller for our entire flight journey. Initially while picking out a stroller for our flight, I was drawn towards all the fancy ones, with extra pockets, features, sun covers etc. but I am glad I picked this one which was so easy to carry along. There were many times when Mishika just wanted to walk around and not sit in the stroller and so having something that was easily manageable came in to be super useful.
5. Gate check cover for umbrella stroller – Something which I had learnt from my past mistakes. Previously for our travels, like this one to India or this to London we were carrying the huge baby stroller for Mishika. By the time we were back home to Buffalo our stroller was covered with scratches with all the mishandling and had the seat cut on the side. So, this time as we were carrying the umbrella stroller for Mishika and I knew that this is was something that was going to be with us for a long time, I was lucky to find a cover for the umbrella stroller for the gate checks and our stroller remained in a great condition after the entire journey.
6. Folding headphones – Yeah rite! They make these for toddlers. Well honestly, Mishika did not quiet use them as she did not like the idea of having something on her ears. But if your kid is someone who likes to listen to the music while watching, these headphones are super handy as they can be folded as well as cheap (under $30). So, no worries if they are lost!
7. Flight entertainment carry-on bag – Traveling with a kid comes with a lot of different stuff to carry with one of them being the toys and activities to keep them occupied on such a long flight journey. You can find my latest post here where I have shared all the toys/ activities that I had carried in my carry-on bag to entertain Mishika.
8. Fire HD 10 Tablet – This was a great help! Even after so much planning and the toys/ activities that we were carrying along with us to entertain our daughter, towards the end of the twenty eight hours long flight, things had started to get out of hand. This is when the tablet played its part to keep Mishika occupied and avoid getting restless and cranky. At the start of our journey I had downloaded many apps that would allow you to play nursery rhymes in offline mode.Â
9. Insulated food jar – Super handy, super useful and a must to carry item on long flights. If your little one is not hungry and decides to eat later on, this food jar can keep food warm for long hours. Also, it comes with a cute spoon!
With this and the last two posts, it pretty much summarizes everything that I was carrying for Mishika while we were on our twenty-eight hours long flight journey to India. Looking back at all these posts makes me realize how much preparation need to be done to have a planned and stress free travel with kids. Although, there is no magic or easy way out when it comes to traveling with kids but by prepping for the trip beforehand you can control unlikely situations and much more you will have a better chance to keep your kid occupied and entertained while on these long flights.
