Ready for a fun paper plate craft that can be done easily at home with stuff lying around. All you will need are pom poms!
My daughter loves to talk to her grandpa all the time. Although we don't get to see him that often as he lives far away from us, but still every day for a couple of minutes she likes to video call him and talk to him about what new she has learned.
So a few days back, when I was doing an activity with her and asked her what she wanted to draw, she told me that she wants to draw a picture of her grandpa and then gift it to him.
So this gave me an idea to try a paper plate pom pom art & craft with her. It was so sweet to watch her make this craft as she constantly spoke about him and also once we were done, she got the idea of adding the white beard all on her own. 🙂

Activity set up
This activity is a simple activity with no set way to do it. It is all about teaching your kids to use their own imagination and help their creative juices to play.
First using a scale and scissor cut of the top portion of the plate as shown in the picture below. Make sure to keep the scissors away from your little one's reach!
Next cut out a triangular shape on the construction paper so that the base of the triangle covers the top of the plate and stick them to each other using glue from behind. I would have preferred to use a white construction paper but somehow my daughter was stuck on using a black one, so we went with a black construction paper 🙂
Next, cover the entire hat area (construction paper) with a lot of glue and let your child stick pom poms to it. Beware that you will have to use a considerable amount of glue, otherwise, the pom poms won't stick to the construction paper.
Once the hat is covered with pom poms completely, using a black marker draw eyes, nose, and lips on the paper plate and color them out to make it look happy 🙂
Since my daughter was drawing her grandpa, she insisted on a white beard :). So I got a few cotton balls for her and let her stick them to the plate to make it look like a white beard.
It was such a fun activity and I was amazed at the sweet stories that my little girl spoke to me about her grandpa, her toys grandpa and her friends grandpa. It made me realize they might be only 2 years olds but they do observe everything around them all the time.
So are you ready to help a child make a gift for his grandpa?
