Being pregnant is a beautiful feeling but for many women, it is completely a new land filled with so many new experiences. From initial mood swings, loss of appetite, heartburn, lingering nausea and morning sickness, there is just so much that a pregnant woman goes through in those nine months.

To help you prepare better for the pregnancy and to also be aware of what to expect throughout your pregnancy, it is best to always prepare a list of questions to ask your OBGYN so that you have all the information you need.

1. How often should I visit the OBGYN during the entire pregnancy?

OBGYN is one stop during your entire pregnancy that you will often be visiting. To help you plan your schedule better or to block off time in your work calendar, it is best to get a clear picture of how often you will be visiting the OBGYN.

2. What prenatal vitamins should I take? And when should I take them?

Prenatal vitamins are important to ensure a healthy pregnancy. It is best to consult your doctor as to what brands of prenatal vitamins are best.

Also, I use to end up with a lot of constipation if I would take my prenatal vitamins early in the morning. Find the time that suits you best and take your prenatal vitamins then.

 

3. Is it allrite to work out during pregnancy? What kind of exercises should I avoid during pregnancy?

Working out is usually considered normal during pregnancy but one woman’s pregnancy might differ from the other one. So, it is best to ask your doctor and seek his advice about working out during pregnancy.

Also, make sure to consult him on what form of exercises you need to avoid during pregnancy.

 4. What over the counter medications are safe to use during pregnancy?

During my pregnancy, I had ended up with a really bad cold and cough and since I had forgotten to consult my doctor, I had to wait for the weekend to speak with him about what medication were safe to take during my pregnancy. It was a terrible feeling. I felt so helpless.

During your pregnancy, you will need non-prescription medicines to help you relieve minor body aches or headaches. Your health care provider should provide you with a list of medications that are safe to take during pregnancy.

 

5. Is there any particular food item that I should avoid during pregnancy?

There are a few items that you will have to keep on the lookout to avoid during your pregnancy. Your OBGYN will be able to provide you with a list.  

 

6. Is it okay that I have cramping or some bleeding while I am pregnant?

Some women do experience cramping and spotting in the first trimester as the fertilized egg implants and begin to grow inside the uterus. But if the cramping is consistent or if you are experiencing a lot of bleeding, then it’s not considered normal.

To get a clear idea of what is outside the normal range, it is best to consult your doctor to look out for those cautious warnings.

7. How much weight should I gain in each trimester during the pregnancy?

How much weight you will be gaining throughout your pregnancy is usually determined by your pre-pregnancy BMI. Ask your healthcare provider to provide you with a range of expected weight gain in each trimester.

 

8. Who will deliver my baby?

It is very important to know who will be delivering your baby. Sometimes it is the nurses or another on-duty doctor in the hospital. You should be aware of who you will be seeing in the delivery room so that there are no surprises.

 

9. Is it allrite to travel during pregnancy?

Make sure to discuss all your upcoming travel plans with your OBGYN, as sometimes you might need additional vaccination to travel to a few places.

Also, it is best to consult your doctor to be fully aware of the place that you are travelling to is safe for your pregnancy.

 

10. What vaccinations should I get during the pregnancy?

There are a couple of vaccines that your doctor will give you through your pregnancy like Adult Tdap, Influenza vaccine and a few more. Make sure you ask your doctor which ones you will be getting and when so that you can keep a track of them.

 

Through your pregnancy, you will experience many new things so it is best to be prepared as much as you can along the way. Prior to taking any medication or if you are unsure about anything in your pregnancy, always consult your OBGYN as they will be your best guide through your pregnancy.
