Last weekend we took an impromptu weekend trip to Chicago, much to the constant requests from an old friend who was eagerly waiting to meet Mishika. Now that she is 6 months old, we felt it was the right time to try a small flight out before we plan our long international trip to India (coming up in a few weeks). The night before we were leaving on our trip, I was nervous and packing late night to make sure that I had everything that I needed to travel with a six month old as this would be our first trip away from home. We flew out on Saturday morning and reached Chicago by noon. As it was raining on Saturday we spent the rest of the day relaxing, meeting friends and taking a long nap while my friends looked after Mishika (highlight of the trip!!). In the evening we had a small get together with a few friends and tried out the famous deep dish pizza of Chicago. I really loved it! It was as delicious as I had heard about it.

Our Sunday morning started with an amazing homemade breakfast and catching up with friends and getting ready to spend the rest of the day sightseeing Chicago. This was the first time when we had stayed out with Mishika for at least two of her feeds. As she is a nursing baby, I was worried and not sure as to how will it go. To my surprise it was an easy and peaceful outing and our little girl did not fuss at all.

The weather in chicago was 50degF (cold and windy) and I was unable to try out my dresses and rompers that I has especially purchased for this trip. but that did not stop us from spending the rest of the day outside. We drove to Michigan Avenue and walked to the Bean enjoying the local Chicago downtown area while Mishika stayed snuggled in her warm stroller. I have been to Chicago many times before but I have somehow always managed to visit the Bean. It’s one of my favorite spot in Chicago city.

I love chinese food and was so happy to see Panda express. We had a great lunch and a much needed break from our long walk.

On our way back we walked over the bridge of lake Chicago watching the boats and people kayaking and checked out Apple Michigan avenue. It was so lively and filled with locals and tourists.

The next day the weather was surprisingly in the 70's and we walked from Apple Michigan to Navy Pier along the riverfront. It's a beautiful and short walk if you want to explore and feel the Chicago city!

Although it was a short trip to Chicago, it felt refreshing and rejuvenating and prepared us to travel more in the future with our little girl. In my short trip I did pick up a few tips on what I could have done differently to make this trip more peaceful and comfortable for our little one as well as for us. I will share my learnings in a coming blog post soon.

Happy weekend!
